And he fails on all fronts
Story
After a robbery gone wrong, a thief and a troubled orphan must rescue their kidnapped partner from a ruthless drug lord and her charming killer. This film tries very hard to be stylish and charming, in the style of the first film Smokin’ Aces. Lou Diamond Phillips plays him as well as anyone, even though he’s almost unrecognizable for the most part. The rest are such overplayed caricatures that they are simply two-dimensional and annoying.
The action is actually boring for the most part
Screams and bulging eyes don’t make it funny or clever. The movie seems to think it needs an action wall every five minutes to keep you watching – and it’s partly right. The plot is so boring and ubiquitous that it is difficult to follow. Or, rather, it’s hard to care enough to follow it.
CGI is largely portit stunts
There is some guy who stole some money or something. And at least two other groups of people want to get it from him for reasons that are just unclear to me. It’s extremely difficult to care about any of the characters when none of them are real. No doubt the skilled stuntmen working on it lose credibility when you realize how green screen it all is.
Why did all this happen?
The main character can’t even ride a motorcycle on a straight road without pretending. I reached the end, although I wanted to give up several times. Since bullet wounds in most cases turned out to be insignificant, the stakes, as a rule, were zero. When people really died, it was hard to believe that it was true, when they had previously shrugged off the worst.
Why should someone be worried?
Did someone win in the end? I don’t know, I watched it all.
